Hajj 2027from Upstate New York

Our community has served Rochester since 1997, and teaching has always come before travel here. This guide is written the way we teach: the timeline first, then the choices that actually shape the journey, then the rites themselves — so that by the time you open Nusuk, nothing on the screen is unfamiliar.

Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam, obligatory once in a lifetime for every Muslim who is physically and financially able. Since 2022, pilgrims from the United States and Canada book it exclusively through Nusuk Hajj, the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah’s official platform. There is no other legitimate route, and no travel agency can sell you a Hajj package outside it.

What a travel operator does provide is everything around the booking: the group flight from North America, the imam and murshid who travel with you, the seminars beforehand, the ziyarat programme, the transport at the Mashair sites, and someone reachable when something goes wrong at three in the morning in Mina. Hamidiye Education Center of Rochester (ICCR) works with Hisar Tour, the travel arm of the United American Muslim Association, for exactly that. Everything on this page links through to Hisar Tour’s Hajj 2027 registration guidance and packages, where you can compare tiers in detail and pre-register at no cost.

Timing

When is Hajj 2027?

Hajj 2027 falls in 1448 AH. The dates below follow the Umm al-Qura calendar; the confirmed dates come from the Saudi moon-sighting committee closer to the season.

Dates follow the Umm al-Qura calendar and are confirmed by the Saudi moon-sighting committee closer to the season. A one-day shift is normal — plan your leave with a buffer on both ends.

The registration window

When does Nusuk open for 1448?

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah had not published the 1448 timetable when this page was written. The 1447 cycle is documented, however, and gives a clear two-stage structure worth understanding before it repeats.

The 1447 cycle, as it ran

  • 7 October 2025: account registration opened — profile creation, document upload, verification.
  • 1 February 2026: booking and payment opened — package selection and eWallet charge.
  • Roughly a four-month interval between the two, which is where all preparation belongs.

The projection for 1448

  • Registration: expected October – December 2026.
  • Booking and payment: expected January – February 2027.
  • Announced through the Nusuk platform itself; third-party dates are inference.

A point worth teaching plainly: registration is eligibility, not reservation. Every year pilgrims believe an account secures them a place. It does not. The place is secured at the booking stage, months later, and only for those already verified and funded.

Getting there from Rochester

Upstate to the group, and the group to Makkah

Hisar Tour’s group departures leave from six North American gateways, and none of them is Rochester. That is not a problem, but it is something to plan rather than discover.

  • JFK is the natural gateway for Upstate New York. Every 2027 package tier departs from JFK, including the Platinum tiers, which run only from JFK and Washington Dulles.
  • You reach the gateway; the package covers the rest. The group flight from JFK onward is already inside the package price. Arriving at JFK is your part, and it is worth arriving the night before rather than connecting on the same day.
  • Chicago (ORD) is the alternative for the Gold, Gold Shifting and Silver tiers if it suits you better. Toronto (YYZ) also runs, which some families near the border find easier.
  • Tell us your city at pre-registration. The team plans the connection with you rather than leaving you to work out the timing alone.

Do not book the connection until the package is confirmed. Group flight timings are finalised alongside the Nusuk booking. A cheap non-refundable ticket bought too early is the most common avoidable loss on this journey.

Before you travel

Study first, book second

A pilgrim who understands the rites before departure has a different Hajj from one who is following instructions in a crowd. Hisar Tour runs a free webinar series precisely for this, and it costs nothing to attend before you have committed to anything.

The platform

Nusuk registration, verification, the eWallet, the official timeline, and a full walkthrough of the booking screens — zones, shifting and non-shifting, Mina camps, room types, photo upload and adding companions.

The rites

Entering ihram, the Talbiyah and the niyyah for each rite; Tawaf, Sa’i, the Rawdah and the ziyarat sites; then Mina, Arafat, Muzdalifah and the Jamarat, day by day, so that the sequence is already familiar.

The practicalities

Packing, medication planning, hydration and heat, crowd management, what to carry in Mina, and a final live question session before departure. Recordings are shared, which matters if you are working when a session runs.

Starting prices are per pilgrim in a shared quad room and include the group flight from North America. Triple, double and single rooms are available at Nusuk checkout at higher rates. Hotels may be substituted with comparable properties. These are Hisar Tour’s published 2027 planning figures — the binding price is the one shown inside Nusuk when sales open.

The fine print

What is included, and what is not

The inclusions are consistent across tiers; what varies between them is location and movement, not the service list. The exclusions are where budgeting goes wrong.

Included in every Hisar Tour package

  • Hajj visa and permit, issued through Nusuk
  • Accommodation in Makkah and in Madinah
  • Daily catering
  • Haramain High-Speed Railway between the two cities — roughly 450 km in about two and a half hours, rather than up to nine by road
  • Transport at the Mashair sites during the ritual days
  • An allocated murshid guide, plus training courses and seminars before departure
  • Group Tawaf, and ziyarah programmes in Makkah and Madinah
  • SIM card, Zamzam water and dates, a Qur’an and rosary set, prayer rug and umbrella, and a personal supplies package
  • Wheelchair on request, and Saudi health insurance
  • Round-trip group flights from North America, inside the starting prices above

Budget separately for

  • Qurbani, unless you add it at checkout
  • Personal spending, gifts and meals taken outside the package
  • Passport issue or renewal fees
  • Vaccinations and personal medical costs beyond the included Saudi health insurance
  • Excess baggage
  • Room upgrades — quoted prices are for a bed in a shared quad
  • Your own travel to the group departure airport, if you are not local to it

Inclusions differ slightly between tiers and are finalised inside Nusuk at checkout. Confirm the list against your specific package before you pay, rather than against this page.

The two decisions that matter

Shifting or non-shifting, and which room

Shifting and non-shifting, defined

The terms appear on every Nusuk package and are the strongest single determinant of price.

  • Non-shifting: a single accommodation for the duration, minimum ten days. Greater stability, fewer transitions, higher cost. Recommended for elderly pilgrims and those performing Hajj for the first time.
  • Shifting: two accommodations — one adjacent to the Sacred Mashair for the ritual days, one near the Haram before or after — minimum fourteen days. Lower cost and frequently better ritual-day logistics, at the price of a relocation mid-journey.

The secondary variables

  • Occupancy: quoted rates are per pilgrim in a shared quad. Triple, double and single are available at increasing cost.
  • Inter-city transport: the Haramain High-Speed Railway is included throughout, covering roughly 450 km in about two and a half hours.
  • Elective items: catering, murshid guidance, SIM card and Qurbani are selected at checkout rather than assumed.

Mina

The camp you sleep in decides how far you walk

Two camps are used across the Nusuk packages. Understanding the difference before you book is worth more than any other single piece of preparation on the logistics side.

Majar Al-Kabsh — 300 to 700 metres

The closest camp to the Jamarat Bridge, holding around 5,000 pilgrims with the highest level of service. The daily stoning becomes a short walk. Used in the Platinum packages, and available as an upgrade on others.

Al-Muaisim — about 4 kilometres

A large, well-equipped camp taking up to 44,000 pilgrims, with everything needed for the Mina days. Practical and comfortable, used across the Gold and Silver tiers. The trade-off is the daily walk.

Three days, two directions each day, in May heat, after Arafat and Muzdalifah. For a fit pilgrim in their thirties, four kilometres is manageable. For a parent in their seventies it decides whether the Mina days are bearable. Price the camp choice into the decision honestly.

The six days

What actually happens, day by day

The rites in sequence, with the ruling that governs each. This is the material the pre-departure seminars cover in depth.

Fri 14 May8 Dhul-Hijjah

Yawm at-Tarwiyah

Ihram is entered with the intention for Hajj and the Talbiyah is resumed. The group travels to Mina and prays the five prayers there, shortened, across the day and night. Nothing is required beyond presence and preparation.

Sat 15 May9 Dhul-Hijjah

Wuquf at Arafah

The standing at Arafah from the declining of the sun until sunset is the pillar upon which the Hajj rests; its omission cannot be compensated. After sunset the pilgrim proceeds to Muzdalifah, combines Maghrib and Isha there, rests, and collects pebbles.

Sun 16 May10 Dhul-Hijjah

Yawm an-Nahr

Four acts fall on this day: stoning Jamarat al-Aqabah, the sacrifice, shaving or trimming, and Tawaf al-Ifadah with its Sa’i. The first release from ihram follows the stoning and shaving; the full release follows the Tawaf.

17–19 May11–13 Dhul-Hijjah

Ayyam at-Tashreeq

The pilgrim remains in Mina and stones the three Jamarat in order each day after the sun declines, beginning with the smallest. Departure on the twelfth is permitted for those who leave Mina before sunset.

Before departureMakkah

Tawaf al-Wada

The farewell Tawaf is obligatory for pilgrims returning beyond the boundary, and is the final act performed in Makkah.

Eligibility and paperwork

What you need before you can register

Eligibility and documentation, set out separately. The documentation is where delays occur; the eligibility is rarely the obstacle people expect.

Documents

  • Passport valid at least six months beyond your travel dates. Check this today, not in spring 2027.
  • A Nusuk account at hajj.nusuk.sa, with a compliant photograph — 200×200 pixels, plain white background, modest attire.
  • A funded Nusuk eWallet. Packages are paid from this balance, so it must be topped up before booking opens.
  • Proof of residence for non-Saudi passport holders, as prompted during verification.
  • Vaccination record. Meningococcal ACWY has typically been required, usually at least ten days before arrival. The confirmed 2027 list is published closer to the season.

Your Hajj visa is issued through Nusuk once the package is confirmed. There is no separate embassy application for pilgrims from the United States or Canada.

Who can go

  • Any Muslim who is physically and financially able, once in a lifetime, as the fifth pillar requires.
  • Residents and citizens of the countries Nusuk serves, which includes the United States and Canada.
  • Women, with or without a mahram, under current Saudi rules, when travelling within an officially organised group. These rules have changed before, so confirm the position for the 1448 season.
  • There is no upper age limit. What matters for older pilgrims is the package: hotel zone, Mina camp, and whether the trip is shifting or non-shifting.

Support

Sisters, elderly pilgrims and first-timers

Sisters

Women of all ages travel on these departures, with or without a mahram, under current Saudi rules for organised groups.

  • Female support staff and sisters-only guidance where it is needed
  • Privacy considered at hotels, in Mina and Arafat, and at the Rawdah
  • Rawdah visit scheduling coordinated in Madinah
  • Room and group arrangements planned around it

Elderly and first-time pilgrims

Most pilgrims on these groups are going for the first time, and many are travelling with a parent.

  • Zone A hotels for the shortest walk to the Haram
  • Wheelchair assistance for Tawaf and Sa’i, on request
  • Guidance on medication planning, hydration and heat
  • Crowd management, particularly at the Jamarat
  • Saudi health insurance included in every package

Learn from other people

The mistakes that cost pilgrims their place

Errors of timing

  • Starting in the Hajj year. The people who struggle are the ones who begin in spring 2027. Registration and verification run months ahead of booking.
  • Waiting for the booking window to fund the eWallet. Funding is slow, booking is fast. Doing them in that order costs people the package they wanted.
  • Booking a connection to the gateway too early. Group flight timings settle alongside the Nusuk booking. A non-refundable ticket bought ahead of that is money at risk.
  • Assuming the dates are fixed. The ritual days rest on the moon sighting and can shift by a day. Build a buffer into leave and into any connecting travel.

Errors of preparation

  • Arriving without knowing the rites. The sequence is learnable in a few free sessions. Learning it under pressure in a crowd is a much worse way to learn it.
  • A photo or passport that fails verification. 200×200 pixels, white background, and at least six months of passport validity beyond travel. Both are checked, both delay you.
  • Confusing the Nusuk app with the Nusuk Hajj website. Different systems. Hajj is handled only on the website.
  • Paying for a package outside Nusuk. Payment is made from your Nusuk eWallet. Nobody should ask for your password or for payment by any other route.

Getting there

Group departures across North America

Departure gateways for 2027

  • New York (JFK) — all five package tiers
  • Washington (IAD) — all five package tiers
  • Chicago (ORD) — Gold, Gold Shifting and Silver
  • Houston (IAH) — Gold, Gold Shifting and Silver
  • Los Angeles (LAX) — Gold, Gold Shifting and Silver
  • Toronto (YYZ) — Gold, Gold Shifting and Silver

Group flights are normally routed through a single connection to Jeddah or Madinah. Availability by tier is confirmed at booking.

Your nearest gateway

For this community, that is normally JFK, reached by a short connection from Rochester (ROC).

State your city at pre-registration. If you need a connection to reach the gateway, it is planned with you rather than left to chance.

Your calendar

Working backwards from May 2027

A study and preparation calendar as much as a booking one. The two run in parallel and both take longer than people expect.

  1. Present to autumn 2026 — groundworkVerify passport validity to at least six months beyond travel. Establish the Nusuk account and a compliant photograph. Begin the study programme — the free webinar series covers the platform, the rites and the practicalities in sequence.
  2. October to December 2026 — registration expectedComplete verification for every traveller. Attach companions to a single profile. Commence eWallet funding.
  3. January to February 2027 — booking expectedPackage selection and payment within Nusuk. Decisions on tier, occupancy, shifting and Mina camp should already be settled.
  4. February to April 2027 — preparation properVaccination. Week-by-week seminars on the rites. Leave requested across a window rather than fixed dates. Connecting travel to the gateway planned once group timings are confirmed.
  5. April to May 2027 — final stagePacking, ihram, final briefing, confirmation of all timings.
  6. 14–19 May 2027 — the ritesWith the standing at Arafah expected on Saturday 15 May.

The dates for the Nusuk stages are projections based on the previous season, not announcements. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah confirms them through the Nusuk platform.

Terminology

The words you will meet on Nusuk

Hajj
The fifth pillar of Islam: the pilgrimage to Makkah performed in Dhul-Hijjah, obligatory once in a lifetime on every Muslim who is physically and financially able.
Umrah
The lesser pilgrimage, which can be performed at any time of year. In the Tamattu’ form it is performed before Hajj, with a release from ihram in between.
Tamattu’
The form of Hajj most pilgrims from North America perform: Umrah first, leaving ihram, then re-entering it for Hajj on 8 Dhul-Hijjah.
Ifrad and Qiran
The other two forms. Ifrad is Hajj alone without Umrah; Qiran combines both in a single unbroken ihram. Which one applies to you follows from your package and your intention.
Miqat
The boundary station at which ihram is entered and the intention declared. No pilgrim may pass it heading for Makkah without having entered ihram.
Rukn
A pillar of Hajj — an element without which the Hajj is invalid and cannot be compensated for. The standing at Arafah is the clearest example.
Wajib
An obligatory element that, if missed, is compensated by a sacrifice rather than invalidating the Hajj. Knowing which is which changes how you respond to a mistake.
Tawaf al-Ifadah
The circling of the Kaaba performed after returning from Muzdalifah, on or after 10 Dhul-Hijjah. It is a pillar of Hajj.
Tawaf al-Wada
The farewell circling, performed before leaving Makkah, and obligatory for pilgrims travelling home from outside the Haram boundary.
Days of Tashreeq
11, 12 and 13 Dhul-Hijjah, spent in Mina with the daily stoning of the three Jamarat. Fasting is not permitted on these days.
Talbiyah
The call recited from entering ihram until the stoning of the large Jamarah on the day of Eid: Labbayka Allahumma labbayk.
Murshid
The qualified guide who walks a group through each rite in sequence. Preparation before departure and a murshid on the ground are complementary, not alternatives.

Who runs the journey

Why go with Hisar Tour

Recognition, volume and recent experience are the three things worth verifying about any operator. All three are checkable here.

  • Official recognition. First place for Excellent Service from the Ministry of Hajj, held through a fourth-year partnership with Seera Mawasim, within the Seera Group family.
  • Independent feedback. A 4.9-star rating across more than 322 Google reviews, and video testimonials from returning pilgrims recorded in six languages.
  • Current operational experience. 381 pilgrims served in the 2026 season and more than 2,000 guided in total — the relevant figure is the recent one, not the cumulative one.
  • Religious leadership throughout. Qualified imams and experienced murshids accompany each group from the departure gate to the farewell Tawaf, with Bluetooth headsets in use during crowded rites and support available at any hour.
  • Instruction in four languages: English, Turkish, Arabic and Urdu, across both registration and the journey.
  • Revisions made after the 2026 season: a strengthened sisters’ support structure with dedicated female coordination, clearer real-time communication, a restructured week-by-week seminar programme, improved arrival procedures, and better on-ground guidance during the Mina and Arafat days.

بسم الله — start with the free part

Pre-registration takes no payment and commits you to nothing. It puts you on the notification list for the moment Nusuk opens, lets the team match you to a package and a departure city, and gives you someone to ask before the rush rather than during it.

You can also book a free video consultation, join the Telegram channel for season announcements, or read the step-by-step Nusuk registration guide.

Questions

Hajj 2027 — frequently asked

There is no Hajj departure from Rochester. How does that work?

You travel to a gateway city and join the group there. For Upstate New York that is normally JFK, which serves every 2027 package tier. The onward group flight to Jeddah or Madinah is already inside the package price; getting yourself to JFK is the part you arrange. Arrive the night before rather than connecting the same day, and do not book that connection until the Nusuk package and the group flight timing are confirmed.

What are the exact Hajj 2027 dates?

Hajj 2027 is 1448 AH. Dhul-Hijjah is expected to begin around 7–8 May 2027. The Day of Tarwiyah falls on Friday 14 May, the standing at Arafah on Saturday 15 May, Eid al-Adha on Sunday 16 May, and the days of Tashreeq run 17–19 May. These come from the Umm al-Qura calendar and are confirmed by the Saudi moon-sighting committee closer to the time; a one-day shift either way is normal.

Where do I learn the rites before I go?

Hisar Tour runs a free live webinar series covering Nusuk registration, a full walkthrough of the booking platform, and then the rites themselves week by week — ihram and intention, Tawaf and Sa’i, the Rawdah and ziyarat, and the days of Mina, Arafat, Muzdalifah and the Jamarat. Sessions are recorded and shared. There is no cost and no obligation to book anything.

When will Nusuk open for the 1448 season?

It had not opened when this page was written. The previous cycle is the best guide available: account registration opened on 7 October 2025 and the booking and payment window opened on 1 February 2026. A similar shape for 1448 would put account registration in late 2026 and booking in early 2027. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announces the real dates through Nusuk, and Hisar Tour notifies everyone who has pre-registered.

What do the 2027 packages cost?

Per pilgrim in a shared quad room with the group flight included: Gold Shifting from $10,400, Silver and Platinum Shifting from $11,200, Gold from $11,500, Platinum from $12,300. Triple, double and single rooms cost more and are chosen at Nusuk checkout. These are Hisar Tour’s 2027 planning estimates based on real 2026 room rates — Nusuk publishes the binding figure.

What is the difference between the Mina camps?

Majar Al-Kabsh sits 300–700 m from the Jamarat Bridge and takes around 5,000 pilgrims with the highest service level; it appears in the Platinum packages. Al-Muaisim is roughly 4 km from the Jamarat and holds up to 44,000 pilgrims; it is used across the Gold and Silver tiers and is well equipped. The difference is the daily walk during the three days of Tashreeq, when you are most tired.

What documents and vaccinations are needed?

A passport valid for at least six months beyond travel, a Nusuk account with a compliant photo at 200×200 pixels on a white background, and a funded eWallet. Saudi authorities have typically required meningococcal ACWY vaccination, usually at least ten days before arrival. The confirmed 2027 health requirements are published nearer the season, so do not rely on last year’s list.

Is the guidance available in Turkish?

Yes. Hisar Tour provides guidance in Turkish, English, Arabic and Urdu, both through the registration process and on the ground during the journey. Bluetooth headsets are used so that guidance is audible in the crowds, which is where language becomes a real problem otherwise.

Do I pay Hamidiye or Hisar Tour for the package?

No. Payment for the Hajj package itself is made inside the Nusuk eWallet on the Saudi government platform. Hisar Tour provides the guidance, the group flights, the imam and murshid, the seminars and the on-ground support. Nobody should ever ask for your Nusuk password.

Can I talk to someone before I commit to anything?

Yes, and it costs nothing. Pre-register with Hisar Tour, book a free video consultation, or join the Telegram channel for announcements. None of that obligates you to book — it means that when Nusuk opens you are prepared rather than rushing.

Makkah

How hotel distance is measured

In Makkah everything is priced by distance from Al-Masjid al-Haram. The zone letter on a Nusuk package tells you how far you will walk, five times a day, for up to two weeks.

Zone A — closest

The innermost ring: a walk of roughly five minutes or less, sometimes with the courtyards in view. The Gold and Silver tiers sit here. This is the zone worth paying for if you are travelling with elderly parents.

Middle zones

Further out, with shuttle transport at prayer times. Comfortable, cheaper, and entirely workable for pilgrims who are steady on their feet.

Outer zones

The most affordable accommodation, with the longest transfers. Fine for some pilgrims and difficult for others. Know which you are before you book.

لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْك

Speak to someone before you decide

Pre-registration is free, takes no payment, and puts you on the list to be notified the moment Nusuk opens for 1448. If you would rather ask questions first, every option below is also free.
